| Audit Registrations
There is no change in the registration procedure for auditing a course. Audit forms can be obtained from the Registrar's Office and must be signed and submitted by the end of the second week of classes. Add/Drop Students will add or drop courses on the web at http://sis.rpi.edu. Section size will be controlled by the system based on course information from each department. Half Term Courses - The Course listing includes some 7-week (half term) courses. You may register for these over the Web. For these courses you have one week to add and three weeks to drop. The add and drop dates for days for the half semester courses appear below. These dates apply to all seven week courses that fall within the first or second half term, regardless of the actual date that the course begins. Any student who misses these dates for adding and dropping half term courses will be considered late.Co-op Students who are on a co-op assignment now will be able to register on line during their assigned time. Students who are registering for co-op may do so by selecting the CRN number for co-op. Students must make arrangements with the co-op office to participate in this program. Students who can not access the web can fax their registration to the Registrar's Office at (518)276-6180 or call (518)276-6231. Exchange Students Students who are on an exchange program will be sent the CHS and registration instructions. Students who can access the web will register during their assigned time. Students who can not access the web can fax or email their registration to the Registrar's Office. (518)276-6180 (fax), email to dufouj@rpi.edu Full-time Students All full time students who are currently registered must register for the semester during the initial two week registration period. Students who do not register will charged a $50.00 late fee. The fee will escalate to $75.00 if the student does not register by the first day of classes. Holds Students who have any of the following holds will not be permitted to register until the hold is resolved.
Independent Study Courses Students who register for independent study DO NOT register on the web. The student must submit the signed form(s) by the end of the second week of classes to the Student Records Office in Academy Hall. Project, Thesis and Dissertation Courses No forms needed! You may now register online. Students have until the Add deadline to register. After the Add deadline you must submit the Late Add form to our office. A signature from the Office of Graduate Education is needed. Overloads Undergraduate can not register for more than 21 credits without a signed approval form from their adviser. Graduate Students can not register for more than 15 credits without approval from the Office of Graduate Education. Pass / No Credit Pass/No credit procedures have not changed. Undergraduates will continue to use the pass/no credit form. The pass/no credit form must be submitted to the Registrar's Office by the last Friday of the thirteenth week of classes. PINs All currently registered students will be assigned a PIN to use to access the web registration system. Students will be required to reset the PIN the first time they log on to the system. If a student needs a new PIN or has any questions, he/she should contact the Registrar's Office registrar@rpi.edu. Restricted Courses Some courses will be annotated in the CHS with a restriction, i.e. restricted to ECSE majors. In this example only students with CSYS or ELEC major will be allowed to register for those sections. Schedule Conflicts Students can not register for courses that meet at conflicting times. In special circumstances and with the signed approval of each instructor involved a student may register for conflicting courses in the Registrar's Office. Seniority Times Students will be assigned a specific time to begin registration that will be based on the number of credit hours they have earned. Classes in progress or courses graded as an incomplete will not be counted in the earned credits. Transferred courses and AP credit will count in the total number of earned credits. Seniors will register first, then juniors, then sophomores and finally freshmen and non-matriculated students. Graduate students will register based on their graduate status. Within each class, the students' specific time or "time ticket" will be assigned depending on the total earned hours. Students who are in an accelerated law or medical program and are in their last year of study at Rensselaer will be assigned senior status for registration purposes. Undergraduates Registering For Graduate Courses Undergraduate students (except seniors with a QPA of 3.0 or higher and students previously admitted to graduate programs) registering for graduate courses (600 level) must obtain prior approval from their advisor, the course instructor and Graduate Services. Pre-Requisite Requirement Students will be required to meet specific pre-requisite requirements to register for specific courses. A listing of the requirements can be found within the course descriptions in the Rensselaer Catalog. If the student does not meet the requirement, the student will receive a registration error and will need the instructor's signature on the authorization form in order to become registered for the course. Once the form is signed, return to the Registrar's Office. |
